The Venezuelan Case
In many countries, such as Venezuela, abortion is criminalized and abortion providers can be jailed for up to ten years for providing illegal abortions. These harsh laws further endanger women, many of whom are already in violent and unsafe domestic situations. In a recent case that has sparked national outrage, a 13-year girl in Venezuela, her mother, and her teacher were charged when her teacher aided the girl in the termination of her pregnancy after the girl was repeatedly raped by a neighborhood predator.

Therefore, restricting access to abortion does little to prevent abortion from happening and only makes abortion less safe and regulated. This article perfectly highlights the global need for legalized and regulated abortion access.
